BEHIND THE (CONSTRUCTION) SCENES
The concrete slab foundation of the Four Seasons Hotel and Private Residences Jacksonville is being poured! The onsite teams are busy installing and routing the mechanical, electrical and plumbing pathways for the building while concrete vertical structural supports (rebar) are being formed and placed strategically across the building footprint to handle the structure’s weights and loads.
THE UPCOMING FACES OF THE INDUSTRY
Shipyards’ project manager PCL Construction led a group of 25 college students in their internship program on a field trip to the construction site on July 11. They heard from key project members and participated in a hard hat site tour. The interns are based in the firm’s Orlando office.
The three-month internship program attracts various majors from an array of colleges — mostly construction management, civil and mechanical engineering, finance and business.
Sydney Carrieri, a rising sophomore from Auburn University, said she liked being able to see the beginning phases of the project from the ground up. “You really get to see what our work does, and the work we put in — you get to actually see the product.”
