1st DownTown Team, you’re driving forward progress!
Last week kicked off the Jacksonville Shipyards progression through the City Council review process, charting our course toward a Downtown that could be the true heart and soul of the River City.
By integrating public parks with a well-thought-out mix of places to work and play, we can create new jobs, spark additional development opportunities for businesses and ultimately achieve the First Down our Downtown needs to realize Jacksonville’s full potential.
HOW DO WE GET THERE?
Thanks to your support, the Downtown Investment Authority unanimously approved our proposal in July. After the 30-day notice of disposition expired, the DIA was able to file the legislation which was introduced by Mayor Curry at City Council last week. Currently, the legislation is scheduled for review by three committees – Neighborhoods, Finance and Rules. A tentative schedule will put a final vote in front of City Council on Oct.12, but that is subject to change.
If the Shipyards were to receive approval, we’re ready for action. The first phase of the Jacksonville Shipyards would start with construction of the Four Seasons Hotel Jacksonville, a six-story office building and a modernized marina with support building and park. Construction could begin as early as June 2022 with a completion guarantee of December 2025.

Last week the DIA hosted a Lunch & Learn for City Council members in which their staff provided an overview of the Shipyards project. Click here to review a copy of that presentation or click here to watch a recording of the meeting.
