Update on Football Performance Center
As the Shipyards development continues to show steady forward progress, this week we also made a significant play toward the Stadium of the Future!
Legislation was filed today at City Hall outlining our proposal for a Football Performance Center right next to TIAA Bank Field. This commitment to Downtown Jacksonville reinforces the partnership between the city and the team and paves the way for a transformation of the stadium, ensuring the team and all business operations will continue to be based in Jacksonville and the Jaguars will play home games at TIAA Bank Field over several years of potential renovation. THE FOOTBALL PERFORMANCE CENTER
The proposal recommends construction of a 125,000 square-foot Football Performance Center to serve as the new home of Jaguars Football Operations, including locker rooms, training and medical facilities, office space and a draft room. It also provides for a new indoor practice facility, opening up the current Flex Field for public use by the COJ Parks and Recreation Department. The facility will provide enhanced public access, including shaded fan stands, restrooms, concession areas, retail store and public art displays.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE LEGISLATION
The construction costs of $120 million would be split 50/50 between the City of Jacksonville and the Jaguars, with the team assuming all responsibility for any cost overruns. Additionally, the Jaguars will assume all ongoing maintenance, capital improvement and operating expense responsibilities under a long-term lease agreement. This offers enhanced economics for the City, which was previously responsible for these expenses. Click here to read through the legislation in full.
